Marjan Grootveld

Senior Researcher

A computational linguist by training, I devoted my PhD research to automatic parsing of coordinated sentences, which often contain tricky local ambiguities. Following a postdoctoral course on multimedia project management I lectured on multimedia development in adult education and developed e-learning applications for German companies like Deutsche Post.

In 2001 I joined the Telematica Instituut in Enschede as researcher and project manager. My main expertise areas are knowledge management and multimedia disclosure, for instance in education (for Kennisnet) and the cultural heritage domain (e.g. within the national MultimediaN research programme and at www.droombeek.nl).  While working as a senior consultant for the public sector at Zenc in Den Haag (2008-2010), I applied this expertise to red tape reduction and business process redesign.  Being involved with (local) government entities on their way to e-government strengthened my conviction that re-use is essential for innovation: There are so many good practices out there, as well as relevant content. This calls for knowledge circulation and harnessing users’ experiences.
