Manon Beetstra
Lecturer
Since 2006 I have been teaching at the Communication & Journalism (FCJ) of the University of Applied Sciences Utrecht. Before that I worked for different organisations in different countries, doing lots of different things:
• In South Africa I evaluated, at the request of CARE South Africa and Lesotho, a peer education project and formulated recommendations to enhance the effectiveness of the programme;
• For the municipality of Oldenzaal, I conducted a research to analyse why organisations do or do not hire people who are disabled. The output of the research was used to formulate new policies;
• I even was a representative of a travel agency in Croatia.
• During a Traineeship of the municipality Amsterdam, I worked on different projects for their Health, Fire and HRM department.
• And in Zimbabwe I analysed the strengths and weaknesses of peer education projects (HIV/AIDS) in Mutare in order to develop a project proposal to enhance the effectiveness of these programmes.
Now, at the HU, I am perfectly happy being a teacher. For me it’s a perfect job. I like being free in my decisions and working hours. I like being around other people that feel passionate about their work. I like to think about new and attracting ways to teach. I like the fact that the organisation stimulates me creating my own project and challenges.
My newest challenge is the reason that I am now working for our Crossmedialab. Patrick van der Bogt and I are going to transform my course ‘Organisational Communication’ into a blended learning course.
We’re relatively new at it, so any help, tips and tricks are welcome!
